Насладете се на супер, супер сладкото представяне от днес (10 март) на сцената на K-POP STAR, сезон 2. В главната роля Lee Hi, участват яката фешън мечка, и чар и магнетизъм на квадрат, ака близнаците Kwon.

 

Две „представяния” в едно са комбинирани от SBS за зрителите. Със синята рокля е лайва, видим е кефа и гордостта на YG. Втората част, с розовата рокля е

[REVIEW] Lee Hi’s First Full Album, a Daring One That Will Secure the Next 10 Years of Her Singing Career

 

 

Before I go into my main argument, there’s something to think about. That is, the fact that we expect so much from Lee Hi, particularly in terms of her music. After all, she’s only an 18-year-old rookie singer, an ex-contestant on an ordinary audition program like ‘KPOP STAR’ who finished as not even the winner, but the runner-up, the second best.

 

A unique voice that is unlikely to have a similar one? The soulful vocals with great depth despite her young age? Or is it because of her distinctive charisma that makes it hard to believe it’s coming from an 18-year-old girl? Perhaps the extraordinary musical styling of YG who took her in is a part of the reason. However, the ultimate reason why such great things are expected of her is because we have already witnessed Lee Hi’s infinite potential as an artist several times.

Lee Hi released her first full album yesterday. Her album will be released in two parts, which is peculiar. Of those two, the first part ‘First Love’ was released yesterday. This part includes 5 tracks, including the title track ‘It’s Over’.

 

The reviews indicate that the album is mainly of the genres traditional rhythm and blues and jazz. They also explain that the album sufficiently brought out her strengths. The fact that producer Yang Hyun Suk took the lead himself and all of YG’s team of composers also worked on the album stirred up much curiosity. Of course, it seems appropriate that such effort was put into this process for the artist whose album is the first to be released from YG this year.

 

Nonetheless, my thoughts about the album have changed after listening to it and reading the reviews again. The first thing that came to mind was that this is not an album that can be defined by such shabby reviews. Her music holds a lot of meaning that are quite profound. It would be pretty accurate to describe this first full album of hers as starting off on the right foot.

 

There wasn’t actually that much of the traditional rhythm and blues or jazz in the entire album. It was far from traditional, and merely brushed past the thrill of jazz. In general, these were 5 numbers comprised of the genres urban soul, pop R&B, and fusion jazz. Surprisingly though, her music is significantly different from that of other singers who have already been working with these genres. This is precisely the reason to pay closer attention to her music.

Not insisting on the original traditions could be interpreted as staying conscious of maintaining popular appeal. In that case, it seems appropriate for Lee Hi’s music to shift its direction toward increasing the popular appeal. Nevertheless, all of the tracks including the title track ‘It’s Over’ and others like ‘Special’, ‘짝사랑 (One-Sided Love)’, and ‘Dream’ left the impression that her album did not aim for popularity and has actually steered clear of the traditional, but at the same time has borrowed from the less risky genres.

 

As expected, Lee Hi freely expresses her sensible talent in all of her 5 tracks. It is as if she becomes a free bird flying into the sky, as she does not need to adhere to what’s popular. She sings calmly at times, sometimes with groove, and plays with high notes without difficulty at others. Took me back to the unique world of her music that reminded me of seeing her for the first time on ‘KPOP STAR’.

 

Her album has a special meaning because she attempted to move non-mainstream genres to the mainstream. Popularity is probably the focus of both the ex-contestant of ‘KPOP STAR’ and the agency that took her in as they worked on her album for days and nights. Often the first step toward success is to figure out what the public wants and adhere to their expectations.

 

However, Lee Hi and YG are determined to not think of it this way and chose to express music in the way they truly see it and in the style they truly want. They started with the mindset that they want to draw people toward their music, not go with what’s popular. They did so even though that meant perhaps they would have a longer list of things to do in order to accomplish what they want.

 

This was a bold choice, an exemplary one. Their decisions are contrary to the belief in the current K-Pop market that one should begin by making popular music and reach a stable position in the industry before attempting to express the kind of music they truly want. Even more so because this industry’s idols only last for about 2 years before their popularity declines significantly.

 

Lee Hi and YG took in the opposite view of this widespread belief. They realized that additional and heavy sounds can only last 2-3 months at most, planned ahead to produce the kind of music that will help her become a long-lasting artist, with songs that will receive constant slow but constant love. And their slow but careful work has payed off greatly, sweeping every online charts there are.

 

Lee Hi’s first full album gave her a distinct identity from the start and paved the way for her future career. It became a certificate for her to be able to keep singing for at least 10 years instead of the usual 2 years. Even after 10 years, we will still be saying “It’s still really good!” when we listen to ‘It’s Over’. We finally get to see the first 18-year-old female singer who will not have to start an acting career later and unwillingly appear on variety shows to hold onto her dwindling popularity.

[iNTERVIEW] Lee Hi’s Interview with Yonhap News: “What I have is only my voice”

“Ha” means for a long time, “Yi” means happiness, together Hayi means “happiness for a long time”. Hayi has experienced many happy things in the past 1 year.
This is the story of a girl who got 1st runner up in last year’s SBS Kpop Star.
When K-pop Star ended, Lee Hi signed a contract with YGE company. She debuted last year October with “1,2,3,4” and it placed #1 in all major music charts, showing her successful debut. Now, she once again has her songs placed in top positions in all music charts with her debut album “First Love”.
We met Hayi on the 11th and she was wearing a big coat and a pair of sports shoes. Except for her dyed blonde hair, she looked just the same with any teens.
She is a kid like this who was able to belt out jazz and blues tunes with her matured voice, which is why her album was being praised and compared to as “Korean Adele” by Billboard.
Lee Hi answered humbly, “To be compared with Adele is really an over-compliment for me. Adele’s voice is very expressive. I am still a rookie, it is more important for me to sing with only a style that belongs to me.”
Compared to her previous performances for “1,2,3,4” where she was carrying a strong stare, this time round, she is singing with a crescent shaped eye smile.
BELOW IS LEE HI’S INTERVIEW:
You performed your comeback stage on K-pop Star 2 yesterday (10th), do you feel that you have really became a true singer?
Lee Hi: The judges (Yang Hyun Suk, Park Jin Young, BoA) were all in front of me again, I felt very nervous. I was unable to make eye contact with them. It is a different type of nervousness as compared to being a contestant. I was like this as well during last year’s debut performances, compared to feeling “wow, I am really a singer now”, I felt more interested in my surroundings, I felt a little blur and confused.
It seems like you lost a lot of weight?
Lee Hi: I lost my weight during practice, I am actually concerned with my weight. When appearing in music programmes, the other singers are all taller and slimmer, so I felt really small. I want to show that I am really exercising and I want to do self-management seriously.
You seem like the most successful one amongst those who has debuted via audition programs.
Lee Hi: Previously, I thought that once K-Pop Star S1 has ended, everything will have ended as well, however it is actually just a starting point. That is the most important competition in my life. The company grasped my special points very well, and they created songs that the public liked, which is why there is such good results. What I have is only a voice that is not supposed to suit my age, the company helped me find my other charms. Although my music is different from other idols, and some people might find it weird, however this could be the main reason why people would want to listen to me.
What is the reason behind choosing YG amongst all the other companies now?
Lee Hi: I was the first runner up, I did not have the option to choose between YG, SM or JYP as that is a right for the champion. I wanted to go to YG badly, but YG came to me first as well. It has been close to a year, I have never regretted choosing YGE.
YG provided you an apartment?
Lee Hi: As my house is further, so the company provided me an apartment as my dorm. I am intending to stay in the apartment with my mother. The company actually does not focus on training for me so much. After attending music lessons, I will then learn piano which is required to compose songs, it is different from the other trainees. After learning how to compose songs, I want to become a singer-songwriter. Dance practice is still tough for me right now.
Your album this time contains mainly jazz and blues; do you normally listen to songs in this genre?
Lee Hi: My elder sister’s profession involves vocals and different instruments and she recommended songs from all genres to me so I am interested in jazz and blues normally. I particularly like soul from blacks, I know that I suit music like “Mercy”, which I performed during K-Pop Star S1. Also, Yang Hyun Suk boss has also introduced many unnies who are good at doing music of these genres to me, so I have learnt a lot. Also, “One-Sided Love” lyrics are actually my one-sided love story during middle school period.
Are there any differences between Yang Hyun Suk in K-Pop Star and in the company?
Lee Hi: He is totally the same. I take time to warm up so I am still feeling awkward, haha. However, no matter when is it, he is still very caring and detailed. He is like a father who is kind but awkward around his children. He tells me often that when I am on stage, I have to show the audience my most natural and comfortable image.
In the album, Tablo helped to write the lyrics. The help from the same company’s artists has attracted attention. Did you learn anything from the seniors in the company?
Lee Hi: The seniors really perform as though they are playing while on stage, which is something I am still lacking, so I will learn while watching. Tablo sunbae gave me many suggestions and advice during the recording process. About Big Bang’s TOP, I still like him as a fan. My friends are all curious about YG’s artists, and they think I am very close with them, but it is actually still awkward for me, haha.
What are the type of songs that will be released on the 21st March for the second part of “First Love” album?
Lee Hi: In general, it is the same as part 1. However, in part 2, “Rose” the title track has a different style. “It’s Over” is a song that matches my age which portrays my cuteness while “Rose” is a song that is more mature and heavy.
Do you feel like venturing overseas just like your senior in the same company, Psy?
Lee Hi: Psy sunbae is really amazing. Before debuting, when I see foreign people jamming to Psy’s songs, I feel really proud being a Korean. If I have the chance, I would want to stand on a world stage too. I think I have to learn English seriously before doing that. I am very satisfied with my name now. When I was young, my father gave me this name. I was being teased because of my name, now I think my name is easy to remember and has simple pronunciation; this name seems to be of help to my future events.
What type of singer would you like to be?
Lee Hi: When I was young, I regarded Beyonce and Rihanna as my idols, I will watch their videos frequently. Although I change idols often, it is also because of Beyonce and Rihanna that I want to be a singer. I would like to be somebody’s idol in the future.

Казвам го, защото се разчувства накрая, дано е просто била изненадана, че е победителя, а не друго...

И Хаи доминира по чартовете, без да е изкарала клипа към заглавната песен на втората част на албума си.

Начинът по който от YG всеки път пробват нещо ново, е за аплодисменти!

Сега за албума: Супер, втора част! Отново и отново солиден албум, предимство е гласа й и точно подбраните на стил и разнообразие песни за нея,

за величието й. Това малко създание пее доста трудни песни, като се преслушат всички. Не видях “Scarecrow”, което малко ме учиди, но пък песните са ми достатъчни.

YG E е моята компания, но всеки артист е завоювал признанието си от мен, и самостоятелно, и подкрепено от топ Фемилито.

Rose е страхотна, има нотката за сцена, има духа и новаторството на Теди. А с Пек са се сработили като добрите стари времена на 1TYM. Rose дебютира под номер 2 на Melon класацията, но вече е лидер. „Fool for Love” също много ми допада. Тази песен носи нещо толкова дълбоко и лично, това Babo..ме държи, още в „обхвата си”. Обожавам я тази песен, май..май от 5 слушания.

Супер доволна, имам нужда от тази музика, която извира от душата...от нейната за моята.

Много съм доволна и от албума, и от снимките, и като цяло от начина по който промотират Lee Hi. В тази връзка искам да попитам имате ли си на идея кой/кои са стилистите и дизайнерите, който работят с младата дама?

Разкош! Чек да го врътна пак и пак, че отново се забавиха..с пускането  .

Но да..всяка роза има история..ех, как ме карат да погледна на розите по друг начин..

 

 

Основната стилистка на Big Bang, и любимката на GD, Ji Eun отговаря за нейните проекти, също. Наскоро в интервю за StarNews и сесията за Rose, дори я „показаха“.

 

Радвам се, че толкова хора, напоследък и тук „откриха“ колко е очарователна и талантлива И Хаи. И си признават как са увлечени по музиката й. Тя го заслужава, „принцеската“ на YG E е тя.

Много съм горда, и доволна, с първия лайв на "Rose" на M!Countdown. Сцената е толкова приятна, светлината огрява малката ни принцеска, а стайлингът на Хаи е вдъхновяващ и супер свеж, и от клипа познат. Хореографията и танцьорите са висша класа отново, както и трябва да повелява, от щаба на гениалните YG E.

 

 

 

 

В графа новините, споделям хубавата изненада, която Сай е подготвил за феновете си на предстоящия си концерт "Happening".

И Хаи и GD ще бъдат специални гости на зрелищния концерт, който ще се проведе на 13 април на Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Супер изпълнение, И Хаи звучи доста по-добре, въпреки останки от настинката й, а комфорта й на сцената е завиден, вече. Освен почти перфектното изпълнение на Rose, виковете на феновете, особено на момчета е също за похвала. Адски сладко ми е, да гледам и слушам нея, и да си представям феновете й..аджушита и младежи със стикове в ръка, крещейки името й  . Корейска работа..както се казва.

Радвам се, че въпреки неправилното промотиране на албума и нея, от YG E, се стараят всичко да е пипнато, а малката голяма Хаи се опитва, и е, по-добра всеки следващ път. Гласът й е дарба, тя е сладур, умее да кара хората да я слушат не само с очи...

 

Новото около нея и графика й, е че, тя си „има“ вече и първата реклама за LG Optimus G Pro Cellphone. В компанията на Im Bum Soo и Park Myung Soo, тя ще се забавлява, и заедно ще измислят, композират и после изпълнят песен за мобилния гигант. Проекта е наречен

, и без превод, усещам, че всяка тяхна среща ще е пълна лудница.
